| Malaysian Mission Schools News Archive Sunday Star, Sunday June 15, 2008 Where’s the land, asks Hisham By Stephen Then BINTULU: The Education Ministry wants Pakatan Rakyat state governments to disclose how much land would be set aside for the construction of new vernacular, mission and religious schools in the respective states. Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said his ministry had yet to receive any plan from these states although the Opposition made lavish promises to the people during the general election campaign. “Now, I want to see them fulfil their promises. “Even in Penang, the DAP has yet to talk about allocating land for Chinese schools, Tamil schools, Sekolah Agama or mission schools. “They must show how capable they are in getting things done, not just talk about them. “In Sarawak, I have heard that these Pakatan parties are also going around making promises. This is the method they used to trick the people during the general elections,” he said in an interview after a three-hour closed door meeting with Chinese associations leaders on Friday evening. Hishammuddin said the Barisan Nasional did not make any pledge to allocate land for new Chinese schools in Sarawak during campaigning, although the MCA had announced plans for six new Chinese schools to be built in peninsular Malaysia. “My ministry will re-channel funds from our Ninth Malaysia Plan allocations to Chinese schools in Sarawak during the coming midterm review. Sarawak will not be left out. “In return, I hope Sarawakians will respond by maintaining their close relationship with the Government,” he said. |
