| Malaysian Mission Schools News Archive The Star, Friday, February 29, 2008 He said the opposition was unlike the Barisan Nasional parties which shared the same vision in developing the country. “So, do not fall for the sweet promises of the opposition,” he added before performing the earth-breaking ceremony for the proposed RM6.5mil SJK Chung Hua No 2 new building project at Tabuan Jaya Baru here yesterday. Hon said the opposition could talk and criticise but it was unable to deliver what it promised. He said the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) deserved the full backing of the Chinese community as it championed their rights and had contributed much to the development of Chinese education. “We must ensure that all the seven SUPP candidates win in this election so that the political strength of the Chinese in the ruling government is not reduced,” he said. In his speech, SUPP president Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam said the opposition parties could promise anything because they know they could not undermine Barisan Nasional’s might and as such would not need to fulfil their pledges. On Chinese education, he said the opposition only paid lip service as it had not helped to build even one classroom. Dr Chan said his party had obtained the government’s approval for a RM15mil grant for Chinese and mission schools in the state. Kuching Chung Hua Primary Schools No 1-6 joint management board chairman Dr Chou Chii Ming said SJK Chung Hua No 2 would be upgraded to an A-type school to accommodate at least 1,600 pupils compared to 175 pupils now. |
