Mission schools' controversy
BARISAN Nasional MP Syed Hood Syed Edros has come out in defence of his controversial mission schools speech in the Dewan Rakyat last Oct 29.
"I merely voiced concerns by the public," said the Parit Sulong MP yesterday.
The International Islamic University trained-lawyer clarified that he did not have any problems with mission schools and admitted that those schools had helped in the development of the country's education system.
"Even my eldest daughter studied at the Batu Pahat Convent primary school for a short period."
However, when asked why he asked the ministry to remove Christian images at mission schools, Syed Hood was evasive. He was also coy about his allegation in the house on Oct 29 that the Vatican was controlling the mission schools in Malaysia.
"I only want the Education Ministry to clear the air over the situation at these schools," said the Johor Umno deputy Youth chief.
