| Malaysian Mission Schools News Archive The Star, Nation, Saturday, April 30, 2005 ”In our effort to strengthen national schools across the nation, we have been identifying a set of premier schools. Such schools exemplify what we are trying to achieve in every school. “Many of these premier schools are mission schools. “I have asked for an increase in capital allocation for the mission schools, so that they may continue to pass on their traditions of excellence into the 21st century,” he said at the SMK Convent Bukit Nanas reunion dinner yesterday. Hishammuddin added that his ministry recognised the important contribution of mission schools in the education system, one “that is sustained by a special ethos which the alumni, students and teachers should maintain and pass on.” Earlier this month, the ministry announced that schools over 100 years old would receive a special benchmark status and be upgraded. This will be followed by another programme to upgrade the facilities of 6,721 schools that are over 20 years old. Hishammuddin said that schools have a lot to learn from each other. “We shall encourage all our schools, old and young, to learn from good examples everywhere, especially those close to home,” he said. |
